Good afternoon CUPE 5820!
First off, we want to sincerely thank everyone who came out to vote last night!
Also, we want to thank the entire membership for all their support over the last 9 months while we were at the table working hard to get an agreement! It’s been a difficult round to say the least.
We know it’s not everything we were hoping for but it was the best we could get without going on strike. And even to that, it would have been a roll of the dice with how long we would have been out and then what the employer would have done.
We are proud of what we did achieve and hopefully we can just keep staying strong and united and build on this in the coming years!
For those who couldn’t attend, both sides ratified last night so now we just have to wait for county council to ratify which will likely be early September.
Both units (00 Social Services & 01 Municipal Services) voted in favour of accepting the tentative agreement.
The employer has been officially notified now. We do not share the numbers with them. Dave expressed that members were not happy and requested the employer does not forget the discrepancy of wages with neighbouring municipalities because of this deal and that we will continue to address them next round of bargaining if not before then.
Our retro pay will likely be end of September sometime but that will be worked out once council ratifies. We will be asking for it to be issued on a separate chq so taxes won’t be as high.
We will keep you updated as things move along!
Thank you again - we appreciate your support every single day!
Stay strong and stay united! The employer needs to keep seeing us banding together and supporting each other every single day!!
Take care and have a great weekend!
Your bargaining committee,
Wendy Monsinger
Stephanie Smith
Mona Meanchoff
Amanda Perriman
